Photography location options for sunrise and sunset sessions.

The best location options for your session depend on the time of day and lighting at each location. Your options are not limited to locations below. A different photography location can be requested. Travel fees and permit fees may apply depending on the location requested. More location options will be added. I’m always on the hunt for great locations that meet certain standards. I like parking right by the location for my clients. Also, a restroom on site. Permit fees/permissions are also something to pay attention to. The sun must be to the side or behind where subjects stand either at sunrise or sunset. If you have a great location that you don’t see listed below, send me a message.

Sunset Session Locations

Location 1 is the front yard of the studio.

This location includes a wall of pines. This is an option during studio sessions, weather permitting. Also, only for late afternoon and evening sessions, when the sun is behind it.

This location includes nature, trails, and a typically empty road/parking area.

Location 8 is 40+ minutes from the studio. This area has heavy after work traffic.

This location includes nature, trails, a barn, and fencing.

Sunrise Session Locations

Next up are sunrise locations. Sunset is the most sought after because it’s well known for beautiful golden light. In reality, sunrise light is beautiful too. In addition to beautiful light, sunrise sessions have other benefits. For instance, keeping your little one up late for a sunset session might make for a cranky experience. If this is the case for you, consider a sunrise session instead. My typical sunset sessions start 1.5 hours prior to sunset. My typical sunrise sessions start 30 minutes after sunrise. If we’re shooting in an open field and you would like the actual sunrise or sunset in your session, please let me know in advance so we meet at the correct time. Typically we’re in forests or places with structures so shooting at the actual sunrise or sunset can be dark. I am usually looking for the soft lighting involved just after sunrise or before sunset that is coming through the trees, not the event itself. So absolutely be very clear when booking if you want the sun rising or setting in the horizon, so we select the correct time and location.

Location 1 is connected to the studio by a yard. It may be included in addition to studio sessions, weather and time permitting. Must be an early AM session.
