Lifestyle Sessions

Hi! I’m Casi, a lifestyle photographer located in Ingleside, IL. I photograph families. In every session I strive to capture families as they are in a combination of posed and candid/lifestyle pictures. Lifestyle sessions are available in home at any age or on in the hospital/birthing center after birth. Lifestyle sessions are documentary and lightly edited. Photo sessions listed on this page are for individual families.

Lifestyle session examples

  • Fresh 48 in hospital
  • Lifestyle/documentary newborn in home
  • Lifestyle/documentary family in home, activities or just hanging out (no parties, events, or weddings)
  • Lifestyle/documentary maternity in home
  • Lifestyle/documentary pets in home
  • Bereavement photography

Full 1-2 hour sessions:

The full family and full newborn lifestyle sessions are the same amount of time and images included, it is the questionnaire that is different to suit the needs of the session. In hospital I work with the lighting, so, if possible, book the session for the middle of the day when it is brightest. In home, I use a mix of natural/available lighting and flash.

For fresh 48 sessions, it is generally closer to 1 hour. Sometimes baths and footprints happen while I’m there, or we’re waiting on a sibling to come and meet baby.

For in-home sessions with one newborn, the first hour or so is lifestyle. Though, I do prompt families if needed. We can document your family in 2-3 rooms, generally, the nursery, parent’s room, and living room. We can also use 1-2 props and wraps for wrapped/swaddled newborn portraits at the end. That will require at least 30-45 minutes. If you have a plain wall, we can utilize that for a posed family portrait with baby wrapped. To include the additional props and wrapping with multiple babies, we will need to book the deluxe session down below. Between feedings, changing, and settling, it does take additional time. Alternatively, we can document multiple babies in one room with family, and wrapped in a prop together and separately in this session.

This session is to document any stage of family life other than newborn. So, if there is something you want captured in your home from baking, to bedtime stories, this is for you. I will capture what is happening in a documentary type way, and also prompt families as needed.

Deluxe 2-3 hour sessions:

For in-home sessions with one newborn, the first hour or so is lifestyle. Though, I do prompt families if needed. We can document your family in 2-3 rooms, generally, the nursery, parent’s room, and living room. In a deluxe session, we can document the lifestyle part longer, or cover more spaces. We can use 1-2 props and wraps for wrapped/swaddled newborn portraits at the end. That will require at least 30-45 minutes. If you have a plain wall, we can utilize that for a posed family portrait with baby wrapped. This session is best for multiple babies. Between feedings, changing, and settling, it does take additional time with additional babies. We can add more hours if needed, and if I have the availability that day.

Lifestyle Session Q&A

These are specific to lifestyle sessions. There are general questions and answers on the pricing and Q&A page. Click on the “more info” button below.

We will adjust the date based on availability. There are a few instances I won’t be available for an entire day, but they do exist. I cannot leave other clients, or some family events. Years ago, you would have delivered, and (if everyone was well) then been discharged in 2 days (fresh 48). We had more time to work with. Now, some babies and moms are being sent home more quickly. If you go early or late, I’ll be there if possible. Updates help, so that we can plan accordingly. Your retainer may be refunded or transferred if I cannot photograph your session, if we haven’t held up multiple dates. If I am unavailable for days near your session/due date, then I will notify you when booking takes place. The studio is closed on Saturdays.

We will adjust the date based on availability. Most newborn sessions are done in the first 2 weeks of life while baby is still sleepy. So, we have a little bit of time to work with here. We can also do them later than this, but baby may be more awake/alert.

If you’re interested in documenting your family doing activities out in your yard, we would book so that the outside part of the session is just after sunrise or just before sunset for more flattering lighting. It depends on what we’re capturing. We may need to reschedule due to weather.

We can absolutely capture you going about your day in your home as a family of 2, and even include pets you may have. I do not photograph couples boudoir. I highly recommend booking someone that specializes in this genre.

Lifestyle Session Q&A

Sessions are scheduled continuously, start to end. We cannot split one session. Travel, outfit changes, etc. are considered part of the session time, as I can not accomplish other work during that time. We can book 2 separate sessions in 1 day, at full rates. I do offer a 10% discount for any session after your first in the same calendar year, January to December.

.

For a public location, I will check for permit needs, and also fees for parking, entrance, etc. Clients are responsible for all fees associated to sessions/locations. See the “more info” button below to read about fees in the the general Q&A. An activity must be planned that I can document. Lifestyle sessions may be guided when necessary, but are not posed sessions.

Umm, yes! We’ll book you closer to sunrise or sunset for the prettiest light. I will document your farm, plants or animals, so long as they are safe. I’ll photograph through or over fences when possible and if needed for safety. Lifestyle sessions are great for documenting farms in general while capturing some visible animals. Though, the pet portrait sessions may be what you need on a small farm, for individual portraits of animals.

Yes, to some small businesses. Anyone that is going to be a part of the session (hair salons, etc.) agree to be photographed, and also sign a release. Lifestyle sessions are not professional headshot sessions for businesses. We may capture some headshots throughout the session, with your environment as the backdrop. Lifestyle sessions include light editing. Please see business headshot pricing for professional headshots if you require backdrops, skin retouching, etc.

answers

Is there a difference between Family lifestyle sessions and Family Portrait sessions?

Yes, there is a difference. Family portrait sessions are posed and more edited, to help ensure good family and sibling portraits, including head swaps. So, portrait sessions include less images than lifestyle sessions with more editing. Also, we take more unique images in a short amount of time during movement and interactions than we do while posing. I do also include some natural prompting and candid images in my posed family sessions. Check out the family portrait sessions under pricing. Though, if you want your family to be documented as they are, going on a picnic, fishing, etc., this can be documented for you in a lifestyle session. Lifestyle sessions include more images and less editing corrections. In general, the reason to book an on-location lifestyle session is to have me document a family outing, or planned activity. Lifestyle sessions may be converted to posed portrait sessions if we end up taking posed portraits instead of documenting a family activity. Let me know if we’re getting close to the session and you think this would work better for your family.
