What is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is just what it sounds like. It is a session to capture those busy firsts, in the very first couple of days of a child’s life. Things can get hectic after a baby is born. Everything does not go as planned. Even your best intentions of capturing what memories you can as it happens can leave you with less than desirable images. I’ve been there. I’ve had a child and not been thrilled with what I was able to capture, since taking photography up as a business . I was tired and I was in pain.

I’m, consequently, not in focus when I hand my camera over to someone else. My moms, however, did a great job capturing the birth for me, seriously, I am thrilled to have the pictures. Would a professional have caught more awe-inspiring images? Probably. And they would have been edited for me as well. But they did such good job. I can’t think of something on my list of picture requests that they didn’t get. I was allowed 2 people in the room aside from my husband and for me, replacing one of my moms with a photographer was certainly not the right choice. 

After the birth:

After everyone went home though, there is this huge gap in documented pictures. I had a rough go at everything and requested to be left alone a lot. I don’t have many pictures to show for those couple of days (mostly alone) with my little guy. It’s such a sad feeling not having those memories. The truth is, those first days were kind of a fog. I should have hired someone to take the burden off of me. I still would have taken my own because that’s what I do, but I would have loved another gallery in addition to mine. 

Now I love filling that gap for moms. In other words, I go in to every Fresh 48 session on a mission to make sure that my families have the memories documented that I don’t. 

 

Maternity, Fresh 48, and Newborn booking information:

It’s best to book your maternity photography session for around 32-36 weeks. If you plan to have a newborn session, the end of the 2nd trimester is a good time to get that on my calendar. Book your newborn session for about a week after the due date and we’ll adjust the session date after birth if needed. If the hospital you’re delivering at allows photographers in, definitely check in with me for availability for Fresh 48 pictures while in the hospital. These are such a great keepsake.
