My Purpose
Why photography is important to me:
As a child I remember seeing images of myself on the walls and in albums. My sister and I had some amazingly matched outfits that were actually kind of cute. Some pictures show me with adorable little piggy tails, and some are outright embarrassing from that awkward stage. I remember my mad face because I wasn’t fond of the school photographer. I had the puff of hair on top of my head that tells me I survived some dangerous hairspray clouds. These memories have hung side-by-side on my parent’s walls into adulthood. The all to few moments that grew up with me on framed pieces of paper are what’s left to help piece together my early years. They now help me see what resemblances my children have. They tell a tiny fraction of my story.
My purpose for photography as a mom:
As my children grow, I do things to preserve as many details of their childhoods as I possibly can. I’ve captured first days, going home from the hospital, and sleepy newborn pictures. Sat during the last minute of the last day before they turned another year, and taken numerous photos of all of their little features. I’ve rolled videos of crawling, standing, and first steps. I’ve documented first tastes of foods, first time in the grass, and first teeth, as well as many experiences since. These moments are fleeting. It is so deeply important to me to make sure that when they grow up they will see a story unfold of their youth that I can never go back and retell. It has to be enough. Their expressions will show their personalities, their actions will scream their passions in life, they will see what perfect little features their children have of theirs. The blessing of this keepsake will show them my love for them.
My purpose for my clients:
As a mom, I understand what needs to be preserved. As a photographer, I am also blessed to be able to perfect my craft daily to provide others a creative and unique opportunity to document their children’s milestones. So, I strive to provide traditional portraits of what they look like at this very moment in life, candid images capturing who they are as people, and the whimsical feeling of childhood, all bundled up into one beautiful portrait experience. I am here to freeze it so that one day, in albums and frames on the walls, it will be a part of their story.
